American Apparel Striped Bodysuit Review

First for a little (easy) game before I get to the review…

image

It’s obvious which is fake!  hehe! That’s one thing I like about their ads…they are so simple and use “real” non-model models with curves/ muscles much of the time.

image

I just received the “Printed Cotton Spandex Jersey Double U-Neck Long Sleeve Bodysuit” from American Apparel in the mail, and I have to say…American Apparel has done it again! I love it! I bought this bodysuit because it’s got a fantastic “French Actress” vibe to it (i.e. Brigette Bardot), it’s got a sexy low U shape in the back, and it’s going to stay nicely tucked in. After reading the many reviews on the website, I listened to what the consensus of customers were saying (it runs small) and ordered a medium. I’m glad I did because any smaller and I don’t believe it would have fit in the shoulders. The one concern someone may have with this leotard is that it has rather high cut leg holes. You will not be able to wear this under just any pair of pants or skirts, rather, you’ll probably want to opt for high waisted styles. Personally, I have no problem with that since I love the retro vibe of high waisted pants and skirts. I like these red ones from ModCloth by Bettie Page Clothing, these black capris by Deadly Dames from Pin Up Girl Clothing, or my favorite black high waisted pants which are also by AA.

This bodysuit is available here on their website.

Speaking of American Apparel, did you know they might be going bankrupt? Guess we’ll have to wait and see…it would be a shame!

Leotards are fairly hot.

Cute Triathlon Outfit (aka Tri Kit) for a Novice Beginner Triathlete

I am competing in my first triathlon this summer! It is an all women’s triathlon and will include swimming 400 yards in a quarry, biking 13 miles, and then running a 5k (which is 3.1 miles), this is known as “sprint distance”. The event doesn’t take place until August, but I figured it was a good idea to come up with my triathlon ensemble (aka “kit”) long in advance so I can be comfortable training in it and thus be comfortable to race in it. I had alot of things to consider before choosing what to wear.
1.) It must be a waterproof to swim in
2.) It must be form fitting to cut down on drag
3.) It must be lightweight and cool - who knows how hot it could be that day!
4.) It must be made of very comfortable materials
5.) Preferably bright so friends and family can spot you among the 100’s of other participants.
6.) It must not be terribly expensive- I am a novice, not a professional tri athlete.
7.) Most importantly it has to be cute!

So after doing some homework on outfits typically worn by women tri athletes, I took on the challenge of putting together my own.

Here is what I came up with:

For the triathlon top I chose a cropped, bright yellow zippered vest from the surfing company Body Glove from Swimoutlet.com. Not only is it actually a swim suit top, but it looks like a cycling jersey ( perfect for the biking segment!)  and is tight enough to be a sports bra (perfect for the running segment!). I’m loving the contrasting black zipper and that it has a slightly 80’s sportswear vibe (even more so when you consider it comes in hot hot pink and neon green also!).

image

For the bottom part, I chose the Nylon Tricot Short Short from American Apparel in black. It is listed in two places on the website, once in the swimwear section and again in the shorts section. I really believe it’s more a swim suit than it is a pair of shorts you would want to wear in public with every day apparel, but for the purposes of the triathlon it’s actually perfect that they claim it can be worn either way… versatility is the key.

So here it is… my novice triathlon kit!

If you live in the Northwest Ohio area and think you might be interested in trying this triathlon with me, it’s not too late to sign up! Check out all the information here from Elite Endeavors

“Pins & Needles Piped Sailor Romper” from Urban Outfitters Review

This is a playsuit/ romper I ordered from Urban Outfitters ( click here ) Though it is marked in the catalog as being made by “Pins & Needles” it’s label actually states it’s made by “Kimchi Blue”. I love that this looks very 1940’s pin up girl-ish. It’s very comfortable and lightweight. My only problem with it is that it does take an awful lot of ironing. I even ironed it before wearing it, and it needs it again. It’s one of those things that I can’t get away with as well in Ohio as say, in NYC, but I’ll wear it anyways because I love it.

*Update- Cool! This review became featured on their site! Love U.O.!

The Doll Jeans by J Brand

image

I won these jeans on e-bay! I love them like crazy. They are made by “J Brand“ and are called “The Doll” jeans. Groovy! If you love vintage fashion, I rate them highly (you will feel like Pattie Boyd), but they run a size small so order up if you decide to get them.
