Last night I got my package in the mail from Free People... my red tweed ruffled jacket! Earlier this year when I went to Chicago, I had a hard time choosing between this jacket and another one. I ended up choosing the other one because they did not have my size in the store. I never stopped wanting this jacket though, because I love the Victorian era look of it with a prelum ruffled bottom, and luckily it went on sale (click here) ! I see on the website that this jacket has had some mixed reviews due to the fit. It does flow out at the bottom so it has the potential of adding volume in that area. However I found it to fit excellent and I belted it to give it more shape. I actually sized up one size because of wearing bulkier sweaters under it. The quality is very nice in it’s construction, however it is not lined. In fact, it’s not that warm unless you layer your clothing undernieth. But lets face it, this is a fashion jacket, it’s not meant to be an LL Bean ski jacket. It does have pockets which is nice. I may switch out the buttons later for some that are a little more fancy, but they are not bad. Overall I have to say I love it!
This is the “Before” and “After” - I revamped a Leg Avenue brand Cowgirl costume to make it my own (and work appropriate). I took out the cheap muave vinyl corset and put in denim, added pockets, and added layers of white eyelet to the bottom.
Today my boyfriend and I went to MacQueen Orchards for the first time. At the entrance way to the orchard, we were asked, “Bushel or half bushel?“, and went with “half bushel”, not fully knowing what that sort of measurement unit looked like. Turns out, in a half bushel we were able to fit a little over 50 apples! Holy smokes! I don’t know what we’re going to do with this many apples, but I’m sure we can give some away to our mothers to bake with. On top of that, we got some fresh apple cider and homemade apple fritter! It’s certainly starting to seeml like fall.
While in Chicago I decided to spoil myself a little and buy a new jacket from one of my favorite clothing brands, Free People. This coat is more like a sweatshirt than it is a winter/ fall coat in my opinion. It’s made of thick stretch material and the “stitches” are printed on, not woven into the fabric like I thought at first glance. I love the way it drapes around the neck and that it has pockets. My biggest complaint is that it has no buttons to close it, and it seems it needs some. Also, online and in the catalog the coat appears to be black and white, when in real life it’s grey and white. However after a long debate between trying to decide between this jacket and another one they had in the store, I chose this one because it is so unique, and the closure problem can easily be solved with a belt which I like the look of anyways. Not only is this as comfy as a worn-in sports hoodie, it looks a heck of a lot classier and it’s surprisingly versatile despite the busy peakcock print!
I’m currently in Chicago to attend the highly anticipated Renegade Craft Fair! There were over 300 indie designers, artists, and craftsters displaying their highly original handmade goods, clothing, art prints, accessories, ceramics, jewelry and more. I had a wonderful day!
We had lunch and Milk and Honey cafe
Here I am in my new eyelgasses which I purchased from Labrabbit Optics. The entire booth was filled with new-old stock, and recycled frames from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. I have always wanted a great retro pair of glasses, and finally I found them!
