My new “lounging around” robe is hand beaded, has velvet printed roses, tassles, a sheer aqua background…and it was only $10 at a garage sale, new with tags!!! I am in love!
There are a few new blogs I have come accross recently that I’d like to share with you.
1. The Cabinet of Wonders - “Bringing the Early Age of Enlightenment to the modern world” is the mission of this blog and it’s always an interesting lesson.
2. Style Rookie - A smart and fun fashion blog….catch? It’s written by a 12 year old girl… but you wouldn’t know that by how well it’s written! Very smart!
3. Some Required - Intriguing photos and fashion news.

Carla Bruni
Carla Bruni was a supermodel, she is married to the President of France, and she sings enchanting lyrics in a sultry purring voice to the sound of slow acoustic jazz melodies. Listen to her French songs and feel sexy, listen to her English songs and feel sexy. Mellow, feminine, and the perfect music to play while looking out your window at a rainstorm. Hear a few samples on her Myspace page.
One of my favorite songs she sings is Promises Like Pie Crust
Promise me no promises,
So will I not promise you:
Keep we both our liberties,
Never false and never true:
Let us hold the die uncast,
Free to come as free to go:
For I cannot know your past,
And of mine what can you know?
You, so warm, may once have been
Warmer towards another one:
I, so cold, may once have seen
Sunlight, once have felt the sun:
Who shall show us if it was
Thus indeed in time of old?
Fades the image from the glass,
And the fortune is not told.
If you promised, you might grieve
For lost liberty again:
If I promised, I believe
I should fret to break the chain.
Let us be the friends we were,
Nothing more but nothing less:
Many thrive on frugal fare
Who would perish of excess.
Promise me no promises,
So will I not promise you:
Keep we both our liberties,
Never false and never true:
Let us hold the die uncast,
Free to come as free to go:
For I cannot know your past,
And of mine what can you know?
If you promised, you might grieve
For lost liberty again:
If I promised, I believe
I should fret to break the chain.
Let us be the friends we were,
Nothing more but nothing less:
Many thrive on frugal fare
Who would perish of excess.
Here Comes the Son ~ Dahni Harrison and Sasha Pivovarova styled as George and Pattie
The other day I was flipping through the 2008 issue of VH1 Fashion Rocks when I came upon an editorial that just about killed me with excitement! It was the beautiful Dahni Harrison styled as (his father) the beautiful George Harrison, with model Sasha Pivovarova trying to portray Pattie Boyd (although in my personal opinion Pattie was prettier).
My mom showed me this video and I am just in love with how sweetly quirky it is! Apparently the song is about a man trying to seduce a young ingenue to go off with him. “It’s wonderful….It’s wonderful….“ take a look!
My Mistress’s Sparrow is Dead - Great Love Stories from Chekhov to Munro
My Mistress’s Sparrow is Dead is a book of short stories on love. But these are not the fairy tales you grew up with where everything ends “happily ever after”. As the editor of this book, Jeffrey Eugenides, explains, “I started to realize that not only the love stories that I liked, but actually the love stories that everybody liked, had a certain bittersweet quality to them. The stories in this collection are by no means tragic, but in order to even get to a measure of happiness, the characters usually have to go through a lot of difficulty,“ Don’t we all! (?)
The title of the book comes from a Latin poet (the first poet to ever write about his personal love stories!) named Catullus who was in love with a girl with a pet sparrow which captured all the girl’s attention and time so that he could not have her attention. When the sparrow died, instead of her attention being turned to Catullus, she was so stricken with grief that she still could not give him any attention. Poor guy… a lose/ lose situation. But again, love is not always easy. After reading these short stories I am tempted to write one myself…except for the fact that in doing so I would lose all my secrets, not something worth doing. I’d much rather read the secrets of others! For more information on this book I suggest reading this article on National Public Radio‘s website.
